ViewCast is a leading supplier of streaming-media appliances, cards, and software. However, their old website hardly reflected their position in that industry. Their brand was encumbered by a dated interface, and a boring look and feel. The visual experience was over-run with unnecessary and repetitive copy, which prevented visitors and potential customers from finding what they needed.
When the decision was made to pursue a site redesign, ViewCast was looking for something lighter than they had—something that put the products at center-stage, and made it easier to convert visitors into leads, and ultimately, customers. They also wanted a way to present meaningful business information to their visitors and customers, so that they could always have a quick place to find information about upcoming, events, tradeshows, product launches, and presentations.
Responsibilities
ViewCast.com required a ground-up reworking, spanning a six-month timeframe. I was required to produce multiple rounds of site-maps, wireframes, and design comps. After a final design was approved, Expression Engine was selected as the CMS, and I began framing out the back end code needed to power the various sections of the site.
Finally, I crafted the XHTML and CSS, as well as a unique jQuery drop-down menu, inspired by the menu found on whitehouse.gov.
